What is SMS verification?
SMS verification is a crucial component of two-way verification to improve the security of user accounts. This process sends a code to a user’s mobile phone when relevant – usually when they log in to their account or want to change their password. The user must input the received code before the login or password change will occur.
Why is SMS verification used?
It provides a private channel between the user and the company to exchange two-way authentication codes. Since only the user’s mobile phone can access these codes, it’s often used to confirm a user’s identity and to protect them from fraud.
How does SMS verification work?
The platform asks users to enter their mobile phone number when they sign up for a new account—the user keys in the code to finalize their first login attempt. Authentication will continue during future logins, when signing in from new devices, completing account detail changes, and more.
What are the benefits of SMS verification?
The primary advantage is additional security for client accounts. However, it provides other benefits, such as helping prevent fake account creation and fraud, confirming user identity, and verifying the legitimacy of messages and emails.
