We came, we saw, and we turned it on.
Last week, several members of the TeleSign team shipped out to Vegas for our first experience at Black Hat. There was definitely excitement in the air as members from our Program Management, Operations, Security, and Product teams couldn’t wait to soak up the information and energy at the 16th showing of the most technical and relevant global information security event in the world. Everyone had their tasks and notebooks in hand! So, what did we do? Who did we meet? What did we learn? Well, let’s start with the star of the show–our t-shirt giveaways.
TeleSign’s home base
TeleSign’s booth had a lot of activity as attendees stopped by to learn more about our company, account security and our Turn On 2FA campaign. We enjoyed discussions around what sets TeleSign solutions apart from competitors, why 2FA is important as a second layer of authentication, and of course – what those crazy little light up cubes on our counter were? (Hint: they’re ice cubes that light up with they hit water.)
We also rewarded many of our visitors with special gift, made just for Black Hat. Our free t-shirts with “Are You Turned On?” on the front and “#Turnon2FA” on the back were popular with the InfoSec community, most familiar with 2FA and impressed with our commitment to driving awareness of the importance of turning on two-factor authentication to protect online accounts. If you missed your opportunity to grab one of these playful shirts, don’t fret–there may be hope for you yet. Read on!
Black Hat featured an impressive 100+ briefings, arsenal presentations, workshops, special events and more for our team to enjoy. TeleSign’s Linda Nguyen, Technical Program Manager, attended many of the offerings and gives her first-hand account of “Android Security State of the Union,” “Fingerprints on Mobile Devices: Abusing and Leaking,” and more in her blog post, Black Hat 2015: A Technical Review.
It was Vegas…
Who said information security practitioners don’t know how to party? There were eight event-organized parties up for registration. Each one was a terrific opportunity to network with industry peers and experience Vegas nightlife after full days of training and learning. Our team, of course, also knows how to have a good time. We appreciated the time we got to spend with the Black Hat community after the exhibit hall hours came to a close and had a great time cooling off in the 93 degree night time weather at Wet Republic!
Overall, our team thought that Black Hat was very well produced event and one that we will certainly be back for next year–and perhaps in other parts of the world. The event series hits Europe in November and Asia in early 2016. Get specific dates and info at Blackhat.com.
