A Wall Street Journal article last week detailed the fraud implications in today’s economy. As the first major recession in the internet age, it is very relevant to see how the recession is related to fraud. Not surprisingly, fraudsters are taking advantage of the economy with scams targeted to those looking for work. Fraud is at an all-time high on job-posting web sites. There are a couple signs to figure out if a job posting is a scam:

  • Job postings that request some sort of application payment
  • Work-at-home businesses
  • Companies that do not list a phone number or do not have a website
  • Listings with unrealistic salaries for the position

TeleSign is working with several job posting sites to ensure the integrity of postings. However, it is still important to always be aware of these scams that fraudsters are implementing. While many Americans are desperate for work, fraudsters see a giant opportunity for exploitation.
